Braided Chicken Bread is a breakfast dish made with all-purpose dough stuffed with creamy chicken filling, folded into a braid and baked.
There are certain things that look really complicated and almost impossible. We even use this as an excuse sometimes and stop ourselves from experimenting and venturing further into anything. Well, that’s where our talents die and opportunities are lost. It is only when we try out something new, that we actually learn about it. Here is a recipe that looks a bit tricky but is very easy to make. I learned this from one of my favorite bloggers Fauzia Fun kitchen. She has an amazing food blog with a lot of creative food recipes.
Braided Chicken Bread
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 4 cups plain flour
- 2 tbsp powdered milk
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- ¼ cup warm water
- 4 tbsp oil
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp castor sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Enough water to make a dough
For Chicken Stuffing:
- 2 cups boiled and shredded chicken
- 1 cup onion finely chopped
- 3 green chilies finely chopped
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
- 1 tbsp black pepper powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tsp curry powder
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 ½ cup warm milk
Instructions
To prepare the dough:
- In a small bowl combine yeast,1/4 cup warm water and sugar. Mix well and set aside for 10 minutes till you see a froth formed over the yeast. In a large mixing bowl combine together flour, milk powder, egg, oil and yeast mixture. With water make a soft and smooth dough. Place the dough in a bowl smeared with oil and keep it in a warm place for 1 hour or till the dough rises to double its size. Punch down the dough after it has risen. And now the dough is ready for the preparation of chicken bread.
To prepare the chicken stuffing:
- Heat butter and saute onion till soft and light golden. Now add flour, salt, black pepper powder and curry powder. Fry for few seconds and then slowly add milk and keep stirring to avoid any lumps.( you can stir using an egg whisker) When the sauce starts to thicken add in the shredded chicken, green chilies and chopped coriander. Mix well, cool it and set aside till we prepare the dough.
To assemble the bread:
- Divide the dough into 5 parts depending on the size of chicken bread you want. Roll the dough to a rectangular shape, make slits on the sides with a knife, put chicken filling in the center and fold each side so that they overlap each other like a braid. Brush top with beaten egg, sprinkle sesame seeds and bake at 200 degrees C for 25 minutes or so.
