Moong and coconut drink is a traditional drink of Mangalore. As we all know that Mangalore has a hot and humid climate throughout the year. Hence, such cooling and refreshing drinks are a part of the diet of the Mangaloreans.
This drink made with moong and coconut is a perfect drink for diabetic patients. The drink itself is so delicious and flavorful that there is no need of adding extra sweetness.

Ingredients Of Moong and Coconut Drink
- Moong – We need to use the whole moong and not the peeled or split version. After roasting the moong, there is no need to soak. You can directly grind it after washing it thoroughly.
- Coconut – It is better to use freshly grated coconut for the best results.
- Jaggery – Jaggery is a healthy way of sweetening the drink. If you wish you can sugar too.
- Almonds – Almonds give a creamy and rich texture to the drink. You can add Pista and cashew nut as well but in less quantity.
- Cardamom – This ingredient gives the drink a pleasant flavor.
- Water – Use fresh drinking water for grinding, as there is no cooking involved in the process.

Moong and Coconut Drink
Moong and Coconut drink is a perfect refreshing juice for the summer season. Make this drink with the whole moong, fresh coconut, and sweeten it with jaggery.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup moong bean
- ¼ cup grated coconut
- 2 tablespoon jaggery 1/4 cup for non-diabetics
- 7 almonds chopped
- 3 green cardamom
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Heat a pan and dry roast moong for 5 minutes on medium flame.
- Wash the roasted moong thoroughly.
- In a mixer grinder, grind together roasted and washed moong, coconut, jaggery, almond, cardamom, and 1/2 cup of water into a fine paste.
- Add 1 more cup of water to the grinder and grind again.
- Place a stariner over a bowl and strain the moong mixture. Discard the solids in the strainer.
- Take the strained juice and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Serve chilled with Ice cubes.

If you are not a diabetic, then add 1/4 cup or more jaggery or sugar to the drink and sweeten it.
