Chicken Lo Mein is one of the most popular Indo-Chinese saucy noodles. You can now make this classic restaurant take away in the comfort of your home.
What is Chicken Lo mein?
Chicken Lo Mein is a stir-fried egg noddle tossed with meat and vegetables along with a special lo mein sauce. Chicken Lo mein is a one-pot meal that does not require any extra sauce to be served with. In this kind of noodle dish, everything gets cooked in a single wok.
‘Lo Mein’ means tossed noodles whereas ‘Chow Mein’ stands for deep-fried noodles.
Main Ingredients to make Chicken Lo Mein
- Noodles – Egg noodles are always used for any Chinese noodle preparation. These noodles have the perfect chewiness and taste better in any kind of sauce. The next best substitute for egg noodles is rice/glass noodles. Spaghetti can also be used instead of egg noodles but will be low in taste.
- Meat – Any kind of boneless meat can be used like chicken, beef, or mutton. You can also use a mince version too.
- Egg – Eggs always add to the extra taste and flavor. However, you can skip them too.
- Vegetables – All kinds of quick-cooking veggies can be used.
- Lo Mein Sauce – It is always better to mix up the sauce ingredients separately in a bowl before adding them to the noodles.
Step By Step Recipe of Chicken Lo Mein
Boil the noodles according to the package instructions. Set aside in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Chop all the vegetables and keep them ready.
For Lo Mein sauce – In a glass bowl, combine all the ingredients of Lo Mein Sauce and mix well.
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of Lo mein sauce to the boneless chicken pieces. Mix well and marinate the chicken for 15 minutes.
Heat 4 tablespoons of cooking oil in a non-stick wok or kadhai. Add chopped ginger and chopped garlic and fry for 1 minute on medium heat or until light brown.
Then add sliced onion, fry for 30 seconds, and add the marinated chicken pieces. Stir-fry the chicken on high heat for 1 minute. Reduce the flame and cover and cook for 15 minutes or until the chicken is fully done.
Now add all the chopped vegetables (carrot, marrow, cabbage, colored capsicum). Stir well on high heat for 2 minutes along with 1 teaspoon salt.
Add boiled noodles to the vegetables, toss well on medium heat and then add the remaining lo mein sauce.
Cook the noodles along with the sauce, vegetables, and spring onion on medium heat for 5 minutes by constantly stirring.
Taste the noodles and adjust the salt and sauces. You can add more soy sauce if needed and chili sauce if you want the noodles to be spicier.
